Can I come in for a massage without having to see a Chiropractor first?

I’ve been picking up the phones a lot more recently, which has been nice to speak to a lot of you and had a great question the other day, a lady asked “I’ve been referred in by one of my friends. And I was wondering if I need to come and see a Chiropractor first before booking massage?”

To which I replied, “of course not.” And it led me to think if that was the impression we had given out to our clients or prospective clients. Perhaps we have as we are more weighted towards Chiropractic and we originally started with just Chiropractors. But as we grew we realised the need for dual care in order to get better results for our clients. Seeing both practitioners is ultimately the most beneficial way to get longer term results.

You don’t have to see both at all, you can see a Chiropractor independently or you can come in to see one of our massage therapists independently as well. They have fantastic skill sets, Oli and Beth are sports rehab specialists, they do a lot of rehab work with a lot of our athletes, people just looking to walk more comfortably and get more mobility back in the joints and getting the bone density up. We have Magic Mike who’s a physiotherapist in Poland who has a vast skill set, and is good at working with needles, cupping, and massage. He has many techniques in his locker and is very experienced, over 10 years of hands-on experience. We have Cayleigh and Matthew who are Osteopath students and have qualifications in massage. Seeing these two is eye opening as you get a point of view from a massage therapist but also with a structural element to it as well.

They love having people come in independently, please do feel free to book in with them. What they would do is they do a full assessment to work out exactly what’s going on. They do special tests to understand which of the joints are causing problems and how the muscles are functioning around those joints. Then they do treatment to determine how you’re going to respond and how many treatments you will need to get the outcome you desire.

The type of treatment they would use would be dependent on the type of condition you’re coming in with, for example, a rotator cuff injury where you have pain in your shoulder and you’re finding it difficult to put your bra on or putting your arm in your jacket. We would use soft tissue work, deep tissue massage, acupuncture needles around the shoulder. We then use shockwave therapy to break up the adhesions in the muscle and the tendon to bring the inflammation down and get the shoulder moving properly and as it starts to move properly. We then give rehab exercises to improve the strength and prevent the problem coming back in the future.

Who is massage right for?

  • People who are looking to improve their mobility and flexibility.
  • If you feel that you are very tight and inflexible through the muscles
  • If you are feeling stiff and sore and then wake up in the morning
  • If you are active and want to stay that way, whether that Is walking 10,000 steps a day or running a marathon.
  • If you just want to have a lovely massage and enjoy the feeling of getting tension knots, stiffness worked out.
