Hope you had a good week and you are recovered from the long weekend’if not do NOT fear, there is another bank holiday next weekend. Almost back to back.
We are open on the bank holidays, albeit reduced hours 8-4 so if you need us please feel free to come in.
I’m not a boxing fan but found myself entrenched in “weigh in” scrutiny after Chris Eubank Jr failed to make the weight for his fight by 0.05lbs. Seems like a minuscule amount but he was fined £375,000 for not making the weight (That would make you think twice about that extra piece of chocolate).
I’m glad no one is checking my weight after this week, as we had our 7th Birthday at west chiropractic which meant there were cupcakes galore in the clinic, every time I walked into the kitchen they were just looking at me.
Thankfully they are all gone now and there will be no fines being dished out. The cupcakes were delicious but I’m not sure they were £375,000 delicious!
7 years though! Wow, thank you for being involved and for all your support. I really appreciate it.
We have some exciting news this week as we have two new Chiropractors joining the team. Dr Charlie and Dr Bobbie start on the 5th May. We are really looking forward to them joining the team, you will love them.
We also have Tom, our physiotherapist who works in the Addlestone clinic, coming over to West Byfleet on a Friday morning starting this week, you can book in with Tom here.

What is Physiotherapy?
We decided to hire a Physiotherapist last year as we had a lot of requests from our clients. We have traditionally recruited sport rehabilitation (SR) practitioners who are excellent at working with the musculoskeletal system (MSK).
SR practitioners spend their degree time focussing on purely MSK issues and become extremely good at managing injuries and focussing on improving function and getting patients back to full mobility.
Physiotherapists have a broader learning experience focussing on cardiac, respiratory as well as MSK. We decided to hire Tom because of his experience and keen interest in MSK especially from his sporting background. We have not looked back and having a Physio in the team has been really beneficial for the clinic and clients.
What do Physio’s do differently than Chiropractors?
Physio’s tend to focus more on rehabilitation, restoring function and are more exercise based than Chiropractors. The hands on work they do is more muscle based to improve function in muscle groups and reduce tension. Whereas Chiropractors focus more on the alignment of the spine, nervous system and do more manipulations. (See Tom in action here)
People ask me if I should see the Physio or SR in conjunction with their adjustment. Or I’m asked “when should I have a SR or Physio session”?
There isn’t really a correct answer to this. Ultimately it is trial and error, try both, try one after the other and see what works for your body the best.
I would always say that if you have an acute back, neck injury or a disc issue then seeing a Chiropractor first can be beneficial from a diagnostic perspective as we can X-ray and then try to get the body in alignment.
A Physio or SR can then work on the soft tissues to reduce inflammation and then improve function in conjunction with the Chiropractor. But remember I’m a Chiropractor so I’m biased, this is not always the right answer.

What conditions do Physio’s treat?
Physio’s are great at treating soft tissue injuries and sports injuries amongst so many others:
- Musculoskeletal injuries, including sprains, fractures and joint pain
- Neurological conditions like Parkinson’s Disease and stroke rehabilitation
- Cardiovascular issues such as heart disease and post-heart attack
- Respiratory conditions, including asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD)
What happens in a physiotherapy session?
Firstly our Physio, Tom would conduct a full medical history to get an understanding of your health goals, history and where you want to be.
Physio’s then conduct a full hands on examination with muscle and neurological testing to understand the root cause of the issue. Then a treatment to include hands on muscle work plus some exercise rehabilitation for you to work on at home.
Tom is available this week in Addlestone and West Byfleet now. You can book in with him here. He is also covered by insurance companies Aviva and Vitality. ?
