From Festive Feasts to Fresh Starts: Getting Your Spine Ready for the New Year

Happy New Year and welcome to 2026! We hope you had an amazing Christmas and New Year as we certainly did. We hosted Christmas for the first time and let’s just say… we’ve learned a few lessons.
We had my parents, my granny, my brother and his wife (plus their five day old baby! Yes, five days old!) all round for the big day and it was fantastic. However… note to future self: prep more before the actual day. Trying to juggle 60 pigs in blankets, a hot oven and small children tearing open every single present in sight, theirs and everyone else’s was something we just about survived.

If you kindly sent us a present, I’m afraid there may not be a thank you card. We have absolutely no idea who gave us what. It was a blur of wrapping paper and chaos!
We also had a lovely time with Charlotte’s family after Christmas; Darts on the telly (a nonnegotiable tradition) and many, many games of Linky, where Charlotte and I didn’t exactly shine as a team. Still, all good fun and lots of memories made. But now… it’s time to hit the reset button.

We’ve launched our New Year 2026 Reset Campaign and to help you get back on track, we’re offering FREE CHECKS for all past clients this month. That includes your full stress test, nervous system check and a sit down to help you set some real goals for the year ahead. You can book in for free here.

If, like me, you may have overindulged a little this Christmas (mince pies, I’m looking at you), now’s the perfect time to take action. We’re also running a clinic wide 24 hour fast (water only!), as well as diving into nutrition coaching and habit resets for those who want to feel better, move better and get their energy back. If you’d like to join in on the fast or any of our nutrition support plans, drop us an email and we’ll get you involved.

Let’s make 2026 the year you feel your best, strong, clear headed, energised and ready to take on whatever comes your way.

The festive season is brilliant… but truth be told, it’s not exactly kind to our backs. Between long drives, late nights, extra sitting, heavier meals and sleeping in beds that aren’t ours. Most of us reach January feeling a little stiffer than we remember. That “new year, new me” feeling often arrives alongside a sore and stiffer neck, tight lower back, or that familiar morning stiffness we promised ourselves we’d sort last year.

The good news? The New Year is the perfect moment to reset especially for your spine.

Why the Festive Season Takes a Toll on Your Body

During Christmas and New Year, our routines change and our bodies notice.

  • More sitting, less movement
  • More lifting and carrying (shopping bags, boxes, children, luggage)
  • Disrupted sleep and unfamiliar mattresses
  • Higher stress levels, even during happy moments.

All of this can leave your joints stiffer, muscles tighter, and posture less forgiving.

The New Year Spine Reset (No Extreme Resolutions Required)

You don’t need a dramatic detox or a punishing fitness plan. Small, consistent changes make the biggest difference.

1. Start moving again gently
Walking, light stretching and mobility exercises wake your spine up after weeks of festive rest.

2. Reset your posture
Long sofa sessions and travel take their toll. A simple posture check throughout the day helps your spine find its natural balance again. Bring your shoulder blades together, tuck your chin in and roll your shoulders back and hold for 30 seconds.

3. Hydrate and nourish
Spinal discs love water. Rehydration alone can improve stiffness and comfort. Try and drink 1 litre of water for every 40kg of bodyweight.

4. Prioritise sleep routine
Regular bedtimes and supportive sleep positions help your body recover and repair

How Chiropractic Care Supports a Fresh Start

Chiropractic care isn’t about “fixing” you! It’s about helping your body move, adapt and function better. As we move into the New Year, chiropractic care can help:

  • Improve joint mobility after prolonged sitting
  • Reduce muscle tension from stress and poor posture
  • Support spinal alignment as you return to daily routines
  • Help prevent small niggles from becoming long-term pain

Many patients find starting the year with chiropractic care helps them feel lighter, more mobile and more confident in their movement.

A New Year’s Resolution Your Spine Will Actually Keep
This year, instead of promising to “push through” discomfort or ignore stiffness, consider a gentler goal: Move better. Feel better. Live better.

At West Chiropractic, this time of year, we see so many people who don’t necessarily feel “injured”, just stiff, tired and not moving as freely as they’d like after the festive season. Honestly? That’s completely normal.

The New Year is an ideal time to check in with your spine, reset your posture and address those little niggles before they turn into long term discomfort. Our approach is always tailored, gentle and focused on helping your body move better not just today but throughout the year ahead.

If Christmas has left your back, neck or joints feeling less than festive, consider this your sign to start the New Year feeling aligned, mobile and supported. Because a healthier year doesn’t start with doing more.
It starts with moving better!
